Background on Paragard
This defective medical device was manufactured by Teva Pharmaceuticals and is designed to provide a long term birth control for women. The FDA first approved this device in 1984. The Paragard IUD (T 380, T 380A, Tcu380A) is a medical device he used to provide long-term and hormone-free birth control for women. Teva Pharmaceuticals originally manufactured this device, but the birth control product was acquired by Copper Companies in 2017. The manufacturer of Paragard claims that the device is 99% effective at preventing pregnancy.
Injuries associated with Paragard
Unfortunately, there are various side effects associated with using this device, including the following:
- Spotting between periods
- Longer or heavier periods
- Vaginal discharge
- Infections
- Pain during sex
- Allergic reactions
- Menstrual cramps
- Perforation of the uterus
- Anemia
According to Teva Pharmaceuticals, the side effects typically wear off after the first two or three months after implantation. However, serious injuries and complications can occur that stem from the device’s reaction within a woman’s body, problems during the removal of the device, or from the device itself.
A woman can be seriously injured when the Paragard IUD is being removed. During the removal process, pieces of this device can break or fracture. This could require additional surgery for a patient. In extreme cases, the breaking or fracturing of a Paragard IUD could result in a hysterectomy.
